South Caucasus as a Strategic Hub: Challenges and Opportunities for Trade and Connectivity

At the Yerevan Dialogue 2025 international forum, a high-level panel explored the South Caucasus region’s emerging role as a bridge for trade, diplomacy, and sustainable development. The discussion, titled “South Caucasus as a Strategic Hub: Challenges and Opportunities for Trade and Connectivity,” brought together leading voices from government, academia, and international institutions.

Panelists, including Armen Grigoryan (Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia), Lazăr Comănescu (Secretary General of BSEC), Saeed Khatibzadeh (Deputy FM of Iran), Joshua Kucera (Crisis Group), and Eleonora Tafuro Ambrosetti (ISPI, Italy), discussed how integrated infrastructure and cooperation can unlock the region’s full potential. Moderator Anahide Pilibossian (APR Institute) guided the conversation toward practical solutions for long-term regional resilience.

Special attention was given to the Government of Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, presented as a transformative platform for regional connectivity built on principles of reciprocity, peace, and stability. Speakers concluded that interdependence—not isolation—is the key to withstanding global shocks, including climate-related threats, and called for a shift from short-term geopolitical competition to sustainable planning and cooperation.
